First Shoot With My New Kit

Ever since I was a child I have always been fascinated by nature.

Growing up I had numerous books on Animals and Birds which I would spend hours reading, gazing in wonder at the amazing images of these beautiful, magnificent and sometimes strange creatures.

I would watch every nature programme that came on TV and spend hours walking around the woods and countryside which we lived so close to.

As I have got older that fascination with nature is still as strong as ever but I have found myself growing more interested in the plants and flowers that I somewhat ignored as a child.

Maybe its age or maybe I’ve just learned to appreciate the wonderful environment that my furry and feathered friends inhabit.

It was for this reason that I set out one afternoon to make the my first (slightly belated ) image with my new camera.

I wanted that first shot to be a small piece of nature, a flower to be exact. The day was bright but overcast which as far as photography goes doesn’t get much better, lots of lovely diffused light would be perfect for getting great images of plants and flowers.

I spent some time hunting around taking various photographs of lots of beautiful spring flowers in full bloom and when I returned home and loaded my 80 or so images onto my computer, I was very satisfied with the results I had achieved.

I spent some time looking through the images I had made and finally picked the one that I would use.

So what was the image I chose?

The magnificent yellow and white Narcissus?

The delicate but beautiful little Anemone?

Or maybe one of the vibrantly coloured Primroses?

No…

In the end I went for a Dandelion!

That little yellow flower that is everywhere around us, but to which we pay little if any attention.

The image just jumped off the screen at me and I knew it had to be the subject of my first post, there was something fascinating about getting down to ground level and doing a study of this common little ‘weed’ and appreciating the beauty and complexity of something we all see everyday yet never really give any attention too.

So here it is my first post, the humble Dandelion, I hope you can see the beauty in it that I do and appreciate that even weeds can be worthwhile and rewarding subjects.
