When I am out and about with my camera I usually like to travel light. I tend to have my camera and a couple of lenses, spare batteries, memory cards and rarely carry anything else in my accessory bag.
However this in itself has often presented me with it’s own set of problems, because when faced with a low light situation, I find myself hunting around to look for a suitable object to use in order to support my camera and get a pin sharp image.
Lets face it as good as image stabilising is in modern cameras if you are dropping down your shutter speeds then anything to add extra stability at that vital moment is more than welcome.
So it was with great delight when my wife gave me a Takeaway T1 Clampod on Christmas day.
Well it is now August and I have had plenty of time to use this little marvel and I must say I am very impressed…
Not just with it’s design and build quality but also with it’s versatility and compactness.
The Takeaway T1 Clampod is a small lightweight clamp than can attach to almost anything it can get its jaws around, and even though it is small and light it is still capable of supporting 3kg in weight.
This makes it strong enough to hold a DSLR with 70-200mm lens attached and it certainly has no problem with my Sony a7ii Mirrorless camera with attached 70-200mm lens.
What I like about this handy little piece of kit is it is light enough to carry with me at all times and yet strong and stable enough to stand in for a tripod should the need arise.
I also like its versatility, its not just a clamp it also has a small foot which can be fixed at right angles to the clamp and acts as a fairly sturdy stand along with the handle used to turn the worm-screw.
With a decent quality ball head built in you can usually find the camera position you need regardless of what you have your clamp fixed to.
Don’t think you are just restricted to using it just for your camera either, I have used this handy little accessory to support my mobile phone, my go-pro and hold my tablet too.
If you need to attach your camera to unusual or difficult places or like me you need a small, lightweight substitute for a tripod when you are out and about then I couldn’t recommend this little bit of kit more highly.
